2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé delivers a maximum output of 336 kW (457 hp) and peak torque of 600 Newton metres for outstanding performance: the coupé is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

The new C63 AMG Coupe variant benefits from all the technology updates that have been adopted on the C63 AMG saloon and estate models. Deploying the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with “Controlled Efficiency” mode as standard and a new power steering pump reduces fuel consumption: the combined NEDC figure for the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé is 12.0 l/100 km.

As is typical for AMG, the car has a striking, arrow-shaped front section with the new AMG front apron including a lower cross strut painted in high-gloss black, AMG-specific LED daytime running lights and side air outlets. The large Mercedes star sits on a wing-shaped transverse louvre in the new radiator grille and, in conjunction with the modified aluminium bonnet with its powerdomes, underlines the impression of masculinity that the car exudes. Another eye-catching feature is the new clear-lens headlamps, especially when the optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) is also specified.

The wide front wing bearing the “6.3 AMG” legend, AMG side sill panels and the new 5-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-gloss finish dominate the side view. Good contact with the road is provided by the wide 235/40 R 18 (front) and 255/35 R 18 (rear) tyres.

At the rear, the unique AMG rear apron has a distinctive, black diffuser insert and three pronounced diffuser fins. The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system also attract attention.

Available as an option, designo leather appointments give the interior a particularly exclusive character: four single colours and three two-tone combinations are available. These can also be complemented with “extended black designo leather appointments” for the top section of the dashboard.

As for the CLS63 AMG, an “Edition 1″ of the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe is also available. The Edition 1 features exciting, premium quality interior details that have been specially designed: the AMG sports seats, door centre panels and armrests come in black designo leather with contrasting porcelain seams on the sports seats. To match this, the trim parts have a porcelain piano-lacquer look and the two-tone AMG performance steering wheel sets black nappa leather off with a lower section in porcelain designo leather. An “Edition 1″ badge on the trim indicates this version’s singularity. AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt black make the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupé Edition 1 look equally special on the outside. As an option, the standard metallic paintwork can be swapped for a matt finish in designo magno night black or diamond white metallic BRIGHT.

The market launch of the new C 63 AMG coupé starts in July 2011. All prices at a glance (incl. 19% VAT):

    * C 63 AMG Coupé: €72,590
    * C 63 AMG Coupé “Edition 1″: €77,231
    * C 63 AMG Saloon: €71,340.50
    * C 63 AMG Estate: €73,899
    * AMG Performance package: €7116.20 (saloon / coupé) €6461.70 (estate)

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder

The 918 Spyder will be powered by a unique plug-in hybrid system that will include a high-revving, mid-mounted V8 engine with capacity of more than 4.0 liters and producing at least 500 horsepower. The engine will be based on the Porsche RS Spyder racing engine that demonstrated its impressive performance and efficiency through multiple Michelin Green X Challenge victories in the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Power will be transferred to the rear wheels via Porsche’s compact, seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) double-clutch gearbox.

Two electric motors – one each on the front and rear axles – together will provide approximately 218 additional horsepower. This configuration also will offer an innovative, variable all-wheel drive system with independent control of the drive forces on both axles. Electrical energy will be stored in a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that can be recharged from a standard household outlet. Electric-only driving range is expected to be more than 16 miles on the NEDC. Recharge time will depend on each country’s electrical power network, but charging is expected to take about seven hours at 110V/10A in the United States. A quick-charge option is being evaluated to further reduce charging times.

With anticipated combined fuel consumption of just 3.0 L/100 km on the NEDC, this equates to CO2 emissions of only 70 g/km or 112 g/mile. On the other hand, the Porsche 918 Spyder will deliver super sports car performance. It is estimated that the final production version will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 3.1 seconds on its way to an estimated top track speed of 199 mph. It should also tackle Germany’s famed Nurburgring Nordschleife in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds, two seconds faster than the Porsche Carrera GT. Under the right conditions, the 918 Spyder will be able to drive on electric power alone at speeds up to 94 mph for limited distances.

Customers who order the 918 Spyder also have the opportunity to acquire a special-edition 911 Turbo S Coupe or Cabriolet. Also limited to no more than 918 units, the 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder will have exterior and interior design elements echoing the plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder supercar’s styling. It features similar exterior colors, carbon-fiber elements inside and out, enhanced leather equipment and numerous acid-green accents on items such as the brake calipers, illuminated sill plates, interior stitching and instrument cluster needles. A limited-edition badge on the glove compartment door will feature the same production number as the customer’s 918 Spyder.
To ensure the 918 Spyder’s worldwide exclusivity, Porsche will produce no more than 918 examples. Start of production at Porsche’s famed factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is planned for Sept. 18, 2013 (9/18), and the U.S. base manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $845,000 (excluding destination and handling charges).
Worldwide 918 Spyder customers can begin ordering this special edition 911 Turbo S sports car today, and customer deliveries will start later in 2011. The U.S. base manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the Coupe and Cabriolet versions are the same as the standard 911 Turbo S models, $160,700 and $172,100 respectively, excluding destination.

Kia Motors Introduces 2010 Forte Koup

With performance-inspired, aggressive and sleek styling, Kia Motors today globally debuted the 2010 Forte Koup production vehicle during a press conference at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. Joining the Forte family in the KMA lineup, the company’s first-ever two-door coupe embodies the brand’s current bold design direction.

Based on the design styling of the KOUP concept vehicle shown during last year’s show, Forte Koup offers an aggressive stance with swept-back wrap-around headlamps, aggressive air intakes and a low, sleek profile. Available in two trim levels (EX and SX), Forte Koup offers a muscular yet sophisticated design.

With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches, an overall length of 176.4 inches, an overall width of 69.5 inches and overall height of 55.1 inches, Forte Koup is slightly shorter in length and height than the Forte sedan, but still boasts comfortable seating for up to five passengers.

Built on a front-wheel-drive unibody frame, Forte Koup utilizes the same platform as the sedan, with an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension with struts and coil springs. This combination helps provide the optimal balance of handling and comfort. The SX trim also comes with a sport-tuned suspension providing for a firmer ride with reduced body roll and improved handling.

Forte Koup EX is driven by a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, producing 156 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque. The SX features an upgraded 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, also with CVVT, which delivers 173 horsepower and 168 pound-feet of torque, more than the Scion tC.

Like the Forte sedan, two transmission options are available for both 2010 Forte Koup models: a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission (EX models). The SX model features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic(R).

Both engines on Forte Koup deliver at least 31 miles per gallon (highway). The 2.0-liter engine offers 25/34 mpg (city/highway) when mated with either the five-speed manual transmission or the optional four-speed automatic. Those opting for the more powerful 2.4-liter engine also can expect an economical 22/32 mpg with the six-speed manual and 23/31 when paired with the five-speed automatic transmission.

Forte Koup provides a comfortable 90.7 cubic feet of interior volume. Driver and passengers have an impressive 38.7 inches of headroom and 43.6 inches of legroom in the front seats and 35.3 inches of headroom and 33.9 inches of legroom in the rear seats.

Forte Koup provides a host of standard interior features, beginning with supportive sport seats outfitted with more aggressive bolsters on the seat cushion and seat back for optimal comfort. Air conditioning, a driver’s seat height adjuster, adjustable rear seat headrests, tilt steering column, rear defroster, center console with dual cup holders, map lamps and variable intermittent wipers are also just some of the myriad amenities standard on every vehicle. Also standard on all models are power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry and cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls for added convenience.

Progressing to the SX trim offers additional standard touches such as: unique sport cloth seats with vibrant red stitching, a tilt and telescoping steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metal pedals and metal finish trim and a Supervision(TM) gauge cluster with trip computer.

Forte Koup comes with a standard six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system outfitted with SIRIUS Satellite Radio capabilities with three months complimentary service(1). Some luxury vehicles have pedigree and taste; some have one or the other. The new Aston Martin Lagonda concept doesn't have much of the former and so lacks the latter, at least one automotive magazine has implored Aston Martin not to build it.

Nonetheless, the hulking SUV seen here is part of the plan to return the Lagonda nameplate to the world. Aston, in fact, hopes to aim the revived Lagonda name and its first SUV at all sorts of new markets inspired by the company's new Middle Eastern ownership. That region, Russia and China have the biggest potential in the plan to build this sport-utility vehicle and to put it on sale in 2012.

2011 Lincoln MKX Review – First Drive

Lincoln hopes that by adding a raft of upgrades it can further increase the MKX’s popularity, For 2011, the MKX adopts the current Lincoln corporate profile, with a much more aggressive nose profile that apes the MKT. According to chief engineer Elaine Bannon, everything forward of the A pillars is new and the effect is quite striking, with a look that is both regal yet somewhat sinister.

Perhaps the biggest is “MyLincolnTouch” which uses command screens, both in the center stack and instrument cluster. For the former, there’s an 8-inch liquid crystal display which contains controls to the vehicle’s info/entertainment system and climate control, flanking the gauges are two more LCD screens – the left one containing aspects such as odometer mileage, fuel economy and specific settings, while the right one allows the driver to interface with the onboard multi-media technology.

Under the skin there are also notable changes, the most obvious being a new 3.7-liter V6 engine. With twin independent variable cam timing; the result is 305 horsepower a 6500 rpm and 280 ft-lbs of torque at 4000. Thanks to a lower idle speed (600 rpm), fuel shut-off and a variable-displacement power steering pump, the engine is notably more thrifty than the old 3.5 and Lincoln claims best in class fuel economy at 19 miles per gallon city/ 26 highway on front-drive models.

Other engineering changes include greater attention to reducing NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), plus revised chassis and suspension tuning includes the adoption of new springs, shocks and different sway bars. The result is an MKX that is noticeably quieter and even smoother riding than before.

2012 Lamborghini Murcielago II

The Lamborghini Murciélago has been on the market since 2002. Which means one thing: A replacement for the aging supercar is sure to be in the works at Sant'Agata Bolognese. And we're not talking about the Reventón or the LP670-4 SV; no, just as the Diablo replaced the Countach and the Murciélago replaced the Diablo, the new Lambo will share very little with the current car, other than the fact it will continue with a mid-mounted V-12. And for sure, the car will sport a new name.

While specific details are scarce at the moment, here's what we believe is on tap: Due to a completely redesigned platform, based on an all-new, considerably lighter aluminum space frame (replacing the current car's steel setup), the new top-level Lambo will weigh even less than even the recently introduced LP670-4 SV. Most likely, the hyper-Lambo will use a V-12 very similar to the SV's, around 6.5 liters and producing between 650–680 bhp. Lamborghini's paddle-shift e.gear transmission will be standard, but we do not yet know if a true 3-pedal manual will even be offered, or if a twin-clutch system is in the works. All-wheel drive, with the majority of the power sent to the rear wheels, is pretty much a given.

Although we believe the Murciélago's replacement will be lighter and shorter (the last could be achieved via a shorter front overhang), a complete interior re-think will bring increased passenger space to address one of the the current model's shortcomings. The car's all-new body will continue the classic mid-engine Lamborghini wedge shape, but as our artist's photo-illustration shows, the styling will be sharper and sexier than the Murciélago's, while more weight will be shaved off by eliminating steel panels and increasing the use of carbon fiber and aluminum pieces.

The Murciélago replacement likely won't be officially seen until around 2011 (no doubt we'll have spy photos for you long before that), to go on sale as a 2012 model. Will its name have a connection to bullfighting? That wouldn't exactly shock us. Will it be the best-performing Lamborghini ever? That's pretty much guaranteed.

2010 Lamborghini Murcielago LP650 4 Roadster

Lamborghini adds to the special edition of supercars with the official unveiling of the Murcielago LP650-4 variant, a beefier, brawnier - and yes, even more aggressive - version of the standard Murci.

The car gets a 650hp (485kW) 6.5L V12 mill like that found in the Reventon. That amount of Raging Bull will get the AWD supercar to 62mph (100km/h) in just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 205mph (330km/h). This upgraded power bump will be unique to the LP650-4 Roadster, according to Lamborghini.

2011 Proton Lekir Concept

2011 Proton Lekir Concept. Not recognized as Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show is for people in this part of the world, there are many cars there that are worth keeping. This year, what looked like a Lotus  Europa facelifted its way, but on closer inspection, we found that this car was not a Lotus.

Well, actually it was, except that the Malaysian carmaker Proton was a rebadged and renamed with 2011 Proton Lekir Concept. Given the partnership between the two companies that figure by the end of the European production lines in Europe, Lotus, a new market for his sports car on the market in search will greet with open arms, even though 2011 Proton Lekir Concept was a rebadged under the local brand.

That is what Proton and Malaysia entered the picture. Unlike the European spec Europe that came with the Opel-source 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produced 200 horsepower, the 2011 Proton Lekir Concept powered by 1.6-liter engine with a power CamPro figures must be directly in line with naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine.

2011 Proton Jebat Concept

We know that Proton appears to have a fascination with building cars directly to Mitsubishi is similar to that but we do not think their ideas are Mitsubishi  own flavor to them. It turns out, the Malaysian carmaker is not afraid of their inner love for Mitsubishi, that concept unveiled as part of their “Pahlawan” series of 2011 Proton Jebat Concept cars at Kuala Lumpur International Motorshow channel.

At first glance it is easy to see the 2011 Proton Jebat Concept links led to the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Despite the uncanny similarities, really 2011 Proton Jebat Concept has its own discs with 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 237 horsepower.

As design goes, 2011 Proton Jebat Concept has unique features, including matte black coat and left with a similar stripe around the bottom of the door. The 2011 Proton Jebat Concept has daytime running LEDs, and three holes in the hood and rear spoiler, which is clearly derived from the performance of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo package. There is also wide-body style front and rear fenders, you’ll discover when you’re a good long look at the 2011 Proton Jebat Concept to have. Finally, Proton decided to 18-inch wheels for all sports and aggressive atmosphere complete add.

Speaking of sports and aggressive, the 2011 Proton Jebat Concept interior has a sporty look, including Recaro seats with red stitching and touch-screen ICE Clarion.

Like 2011 Proton Lekir Concept, there is no telling when 2011 Proton Jebat Concept will ever view of the production line in Malaysia, but when we have a hand in, we would like to see one day. And when we look at Malaysia, anytime, we would not mind getting behind the wheel of one.

2011 Land Rover small SUV

Land Rover announced that a smaller SUV Land Rover will be available for sale in the third quarter of 2011, and it doesn’t like to be called as a crossover. From my experience in the past, driving a Land Rover is like driving your house around.  With the fading of the SUV to the crossover SUV, and instead of a crossover, Land Rover is betting on this small SUV, which is based on the LRX concept.

So far, their are no specifications or prices for this Land Rover small SUV. Levitan said that dealers were not given any technical or pricing details on the new SUV. ”It is hard to say what customers it will appeal to because we don’t have the pricing,” he said. “Any new product will drive people into the Land Rover centers.” Anything smaller than previous SUV models is a welcome. One thing for sure is that this Land Rover small SUV is one cool, modern looking SUV.

2011 Lexus CT 200h Hybrid

The Lexus CT 200h Hybrid will make its North American debut at the New York auto show on March 31. The CT 200h evolved from the LF-Ch concept, an extravagantly styled, gold-painted hybrid hatchback.

As we've reported, the CT 200h pairs a 1.8-liter I-4 with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The CT 200h can run on electricity alone for up to 1.2 miles -- as long as you keep speeds below 28 mph. Its CVT transmission offers four drive modes: EV, ECO, Normal, or Sport. The chassis employs a MacPherson strut up front and a double wishbone setup out back. The rear suspension uses a lightweight trailing arm, with the coil springs and shock absorbers positioned separately to reduce intrusion into the loadspace floor.

As a premium hatchback, the CT 200h is unabashedly European, although Lexus says it will be available globally. In the U.S., the hatchback will be the fifth hybrid in the Lexus line, slotting next to the recent HS 250h. Be sure to stay tuned to our live New York auto show coverage March 31 and April 1.
